Doing mostly essay-based subjects at college, do you think I could still be a music video director?
I would love to be a music video director/ producer in the future, so I intend to study Screen Arts at Uni in 2010.However, I can't help but think I wont have as much experience as other people .....I'm studying English Combined (doing well but its essay based so I doubt this would help me), Sociology (again, it is essay based) and Film studies (which I like but all I have done is the theory side of things and no practical or visual work.). When I went for a Uni interview, they seemed interested in my screenplays but were shocked that I didn't have any visual work to show them. Really regretting my subject choices, but theres nothing I can do about that now :( Other people who want to go into film have done Photography and Graphics! I just get the feeling that I wont be able to understand the software etc and that everyone else will have more experience and will be better than me.....Yet I love music videos and want to prove I can do other things than just writing essays! Do you think I could still do well at Uni, and possibly have a career in this??

- I doubt you'd do well. Other students would make your work look childish.
- Probably not, you would have to know how to apply the knowledge into making music.
- Well does your program offer you any type of internship down the road? A lot of this doesn't have to do with what you know when you first start out- but by who you know. You then grow and expand your knowledge as you work up the ladder. Stick to your program but search around for any type of internship or jobs that could help you. You could also look into other colleges that are more hands on.

- It really depends. I have been around the entertainment industry before and my advice is for you to also go get a job being an intern in television or in movies or even interning with an editor like the news. Any video experience you can gain would be excellent. My suggestion for most of the people who wanna go into entertainment is get a backup degree instead it doesn't work out like you hoped or if you decide to bounce out to something else. Always better to have options. However, don't give up. But most directors of anything didn't get some big degree. They worked their way up that ladder through the industry via internships and lots of time waiting/ and hard work at a job like waiting tables.
