Screenplay Writing Software

Book writing software?

What is a good way to start if you are interested in writing a book or screenplay?

  1. I use Microsoft Word 97. Yeah, that's right, 97, what you gonna do about it? If all you are planning on doing is writing words, just use a normal word processor like MS WORD.
  2. Check out the magazine Writer's Digest. Plenty of great tips and places to check out that can help with any kind of writing; from writing novels and short stories, to plays, screenplays, movie scripts and poetry. One of, if not the best sources anywhere for the aspiring author, in my opinion. There are also commentaries by some famous authors also. Great source and you can even order a large book that will help you with your writing as well as software. Check it out, I may be reading some of your novels some day.
  3. There is no special program, just a simple text editor like Microsoft Word.
  4. Several years ago I bought software called PowerWrite. I don't know if it's even around anymore, but it was cool because it separated chapters and had sections for notes and character sketches and such. I use it when I work on my terrible novel, but I always use Word for my short stories. Word can also work fine for novels if you learn about the formatting tricks (Header, Table of Contents, etc.). The Writer magazine is advertising "Movie Magic Screenwriter 6" for screenwriting software right now. Check it out at www.screenplay.com
